So this is one of those things that fills most parents with anxiety like no other. And trust me, I get it. The idea of travelling with your toddler, who usually can't sit still through lunch let alone a 4 hour plane ride, is pretty daunting. And like many parents, I put it off for as long as humanly possible. Until finally, one morning, when I was feeling particularly brave for reasons unbeknownst to me, I took the plunge; I booked the flight. We were going to Tunisia. With a 14 month old. To say it was character building would be an understatement. And so based on that experience, here are 7 tips to help you brave those stormy seas.
1. Take the grandparents - a luxury, I know, but if you can, take a grandparent or two. My parents were with us on the flight there, and of course, their help was invaluable. Not only was them being there a physical help, but it gave me the confidence to do the flight back, which we did without them. Some might prefer being thrown in the deep end from the get go, but for me, having my parents on the very first flight was just what I needed; a soft launch if you will.
2. Time your feeds - take off and landing can be difficult on babies and toddlers, undestandably so. Time the feeds during take off and landing, it can be milk or a little baby friendly snack for them to nibble on, if on solids.
