Book Review: The Midnight Library- Matt Haig

‘You don’t have to understand life, you just have to live it’

I’ve often imagined what my life would have looked like if I had made different choices. Sometimes I tend to be that person, you know, the one that is stuck looking, and analysing, the past. A futile endeavour, I agree. And that’s exactly what the Midnight Library is all about.

The Midnight Library follows Nora Seed as she decides that she no longer wants to live her miserable, lonely and disappointing life; she wants to die. And in the attempt at ending her life, she ends up in the Midnight Library: a kind of purgatory between life and death.

The library holds the infinite lives Nora seed exists as in all her parallel lives across the multiverse. Nora gets to experience these different lives and choose the one she’d rather be in, as oppose to her root life which she has decided she can no longer bare.

As someone who can often be stuck in the land of 'what ifs', I found this book so enlightening and thought provoking in the way thay it handles the concept of regret and how it can truly rob you of your present and future. I found it heartwarming and reassuring at the same time.
