A year of genocide for Gaza
October 7th 2024. A year on, the genocide continues. The world carries on. No one can seem to stop it. Mainly because the powers that can, don’t want to. In the same breath Western powers condemn the killing of civilians, they also aid, abet and facilitate it. It has been doing so for an entire year now.
The horrors that have befallen Gaza continues, in the same severity as it did in the early days. The only exception now is that it has become the new norm. Society has become immune to it. Was it ever really affected in the first place. Maybe just an unsightly inconvenience. How grotesque. The world continues its jobs and its mundane lives whilst a small corner of our earth is being burned to the ground by the hell on earth that Israel.
The moral apathy that has allowed this to become the new norm is astounding. Taken straight from a dystopian fiction. One might naively think that this is an indication of the end of the world, that how a genocide could continue for an entire year, televised, clear as day, is an aberration of the moral decency the Western world prides itself on. But I would argue that rather it be an aberration, it is the status quo. This is what imperialism looks like. This is modernity, in full glory. This…
