Book review: Outsider- Stephen King
“There’s no end to the universe"
My first Stephen King novel (I know, what rock had I been living under) and it did not disappoint. Having had my first introduction to King’s work by watching cult classic; The Shining, a movie adaptation of one of his books, I was intrigued.
Synopsis:
Outsider is a story surrounding the savage murder of a boy and the hunt for his murderer. The main suspect is Terry Maitland, the local coach, whose guilt is seemingly unquestionable.
How can it be, when witnesses squarely place him at every step leading up to the horrific crime. As the story unravels, so does the rock solid stack of evidence against Maitland, alongside the characters' perceptions of reality.
Thoughts:
For me, King’s masterful ability to provide just enough information to keep me intrigued but not enough for me to start feeling like I can predict what’s coming is what had me hooked.
Overall, I would recommend this if you’re in the same boat as I was; a Stephen King newbie looking for somewhere to start.
Additional Stephen King recommendations for newbies:
- 11.22.63
- Green Mile
- Misery
Looking forward to reading more of his work if anyone also has any recs for me!
