Not only is the genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza being televised, but it’s being live streamed. And with that has come the shattering of an age old illusion. It has, for many, lifted the veil to the myth of Western moral superiority. The manufactured binary of the civilised West, epitome of morality, as opposed to the barbaric lawless east, has been fractured. This foundational sentiment that facilitated the West’s colonial endeavours no longer stands. And how can it. When in the digital age, the world is watching, in real time, the West arm, facilitate and endorse a genocide.
As the death toll hits a staggering 28,000, a significant number being children, the West continues to pedal Israel’s lies whilst ignoring millions of people marching on the streets. Democracy seems to have been put on hold. The façade of the secular liberal order, as the bastions of tolerance and human enlightment, has fallen. The world is now seeing, with their own eyes, that maybe it is the West, for all its laws and institutions, who are actually the barbarians.
Whilst South Africa attempted to bring some accountability on Israel’s doorstep, that too failed to even come close to stopping this genocide. And why, because Western powers will not allow it.
